ACCDA Attends New Year Reception by Consulate General of China in New York

On the evening of January 20th, 2014 New York Reception is held by Consulate General of PRC in New York. Near a thousand of people attend the activity, including Deputy Secretary-General of UN Wu Hongbo, China’s Permanent Representative to UN Liu Jieyi, Vice President of ACCDA Li Xiong, Consultant of ACCDA William H. Su and representatives from overseas academic communities.

Consul General Sun Guoxiang wishes the guests happy New Year and the majority of overseas Chinese in the eastern United States as well. Sun wishes everyone a happy New Year, good health, luck and success.

Sun Guoxiang reviews the brilliant achievements China has made in the past year briefly and introduces about the development of Sino-US relation. He expresses that the past year is the first year of China’s new journey towards reform. In 2013, China and the US decide to construct a new power relation between the two countries and keep a steady momentum in bilateral relation. In 2014, China will continue to uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, to conduct international exchanges and cooperation, to actively participate in solving international and regional hotpot issues and to make unremitting efforts for world peace and development.

He notes that the encouraging results achieved over the past year is inseparable from the contribution and efforts by overseas Chinese. Looking at the past and forward the future, the ushering 2014 is bound to be an unforgettable year. 2014 is the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-US diplomatic relations, and it will also be a year in which Chinese people take a new step on the way of reforming.

Deputy Consul General Zhong Ruiming chairs the reception. Besides, Councilman Peter Koo of New York City, Deputy Consul General Cheng Lei and Xu Nanshan, as well as general manager and president of New York Club of World Journal Yang Renfeng attend the meeting. The scene of the reception is decorated, lit and filled with atmosphere of festivity.
